Rethinking the spaces in which we spend our lives

Information

Brixton Village

This group started at the beginning of the Space Makers Agency project at Brixton Village in November 2009. Over the next year, the 20 empty shops at Brixton Village were filled with temporary pop-ups and new local businesses.

Welcome to the Brixton Village group

The Space Makers Agency project at Brixton Village/Granville Arcade came to an end in November 2010. One year after it started, all the shops were now let to new local businesses, and it felt like the right moment to move on.

There's still loads of stuff going on at the market, though - even if there are no longer lots of empty shops available.

If you're interested in getting involved in pop-up events, performances, workshops or all kinds of other activities, the best place to start is The Brick Box community arts hub in the market.

If you want to find out about new Space Makers projects elsewhere, check out the main website.

Please bear with us on this

Hi all.My group in unit 77/78 found out/were told some disturbing news today, which another shop found out today also.
We have to pay a £1600 deposit or £400 each before entering our space.Another unit was told they had to pay £650.(single unit but the figures don,t stack up) has anyone else been told about this?
Because then Cabinet of Curiousities post that referred to LAP using this innovaative project as marketing stunt (shorterm) to get higher rents for the units/make the area more desirable and not actually caring about the businesses may need to be taken very seriously.

I suggest that a meeting between Neil the market manager,LAP,Spacemakers and all the project shop holders is made to ask just what the heck is going on.

I don,t think this is fair and that some selective info sharing is going on.
Clarifaction is needed.
Thanks. Danielle Scott Unit 77/78

If you are a local maker or repairer and are interested in selling products made from reused / recycled materials, running public workshops, or making / repairing products yourself in the Remade in Brixton Work-Shop... Here are two handy forms for you to fill in and let us know what you have in mind:

Questions for Suppliers (if you want to sell products in the shop)

Questions for Makers, Repairers and Teachers (if you want to run wo...

If you have another idea that doesn't seem to fit the questions on the forms, just drop me an email on hmmlewis@googlemail.com or call 0791 9038778.

Also, we will be holding a meeting in the Work-Shop this Thurs 3 Dec from 6.30-9pm. We are in Unit 5, Granville Arcade (aka Brixton Village). It is the second shop on the left when you come into the arcade through the left-hand entrance off Coldharbour Lane.
