Sheffield Swap Shop*

I need people to help me find a space (an empty shop) in which to set up a swap shop. Swapping skills and other things (such as smart clothes for interviews). Everything will be done and given for free. Can you help?

Hi All

Just to let you know and I and many of the people in the Swapshop group are still really interested in making this happen in Sheffield. I'll get in touch soon with some ideas of what to do next.

In the meanwhile, if any of you are artists and are interested in potential grant funding for art activity in our empty shop (when we get one), there is some Arts Council funding available. You can download information here

I'll be in touch again soon.

Helen,

Have you though about taking some/all of the shop units on Cambridge Street in Sheffield. The council have earmarked a number of them for reoccupation and I would love to see your project revitalising this part of Sheffield. I understand that the council have taken a head ease on the units from Hammersons and HCA and that for the right tenant (ie third sector) they would be available at a peppercorn rent. Of course there would be the thorny issue of rates!

As my business is one of the few left in that area, I would be happy to support you in this project.

If you would like further info, then give me a call/email and I will give you the names of the appropriate contacts.

We are a group of University of Sheffield Masters of Architecture students and are currently involved in a project to fill empty shops in Sheffield, in particular in the proposed Sevenstones area and also down The Moor. The Swap Shop seems a great idea. Have a look at our blog http://sheffieldemptyquarter.blogspot.com/ and please get in touch by emailing us.

In addition to the City of Sanctuary are you also in touch with The Cathederal Archer Project - another community initiative.
Also the community development workers up at Voluntary Action Sheffield would be worth keeping involved.

Get in touch with David Flood at Rateablevalue.co.uk and mention my name. He has spaces available for 6 weeks at a time.
Happy to talk more if you want to call me - you have my number in your email.

Hi Everyone,

I'm back from holiday and ready to kick this all off again.

Hope everyone who had a visit to Sunwin House thought it was interesting. Vic said that those of you who came along felt excited and nervous in equal measure about taking on such a big space.

I had a good meeting with Emily Miller from Meanwhile Spaces about 10 days ago. She's keen for Meanwhile Spaces to help us out, maybe even helping with the legal body who would sign the temporary lease with the landlord. Which obviously would be great.

I'm doing a table with the names and email addresses of everyone who's keen to be involved, so if you think I might not have your email address then please email me on hmilner@ufi.com or helenlmilner@gmail.com.

I've emailed Sandra this afternoon about Sunwin House, to check that it is still available. I'll organise another visit to Sunwin House and a meeting too.

See you soon,
Helen

Hi all

Following the meeting at the Coop I said that I'd get in touch with the Council to arrange a visit for any members of the group who wish to look around Sunwin House. Sandra at the Council has agreed to meet me at Sunwin House on Wednesday 12 August at 5.00pm. Would anyone like to join me to look around? This is an open invitation so please bring invite others. I'll be outside Sunwin House at 16.50. My telephone number is 07867 500682.

thanks, Vic
