Looking for Thursday Night Take-Overs for Brixton Village...

Background: Brixton Village, aka Granville Arcade, is a 1930's covered market. With a rolling program of community driven creative works, test trades and pop up shops, this amazing space has now been brought back to life. To compliment the new businesses and projects that are now in place, there are all sorts of activities happen at the market every Saturday and Thursday…See More

Get involved in organising Brixton Village events! at Dogstar

March 2, 2010 from 6:15pm to 7:30pm
For the past four months, Space Makers Agency has been working at Brixton Village (aka Granville Arcade), an amazing indoor market in south London. When we started, there were 20 empty shops in the market. Now they’re full of new community-driven businesses and temporary creative projects. We’ve been working to make the space work for them — as well as for the existing traders. Now, we’re looking for artists, musicians, performers, community groups and others to get involved and help make…See More

What's your interest in this area?
I hate waste! I started looking in to commercial models around bringing empty spaces back in to use and I found Dougald and Space Makers! My background is in product development and innovation, youth enterprise and online communities. With Space Makers, I am now working on where online meets offline!
What are you working on right now?
I am an Associate at The Space Makers Agency and have been directing the project in Brixton Village. I have also founded The Digital Youth project that brings business and youth together creating real life work experiences for young people. Some of the key areas that I am developing are how to help projects move in to self-sustainability and how to engage young people in projects providing real life learning experiences whilst creating value for the project.
What help do you need?
I need helpers! Anyone interested in being engaged with Lambeth Projects should get in touch!
What would you be interested in helping people with?
I am revenue and user-experience focussed. I have worked in start ups and corporate. I have a strong business background - I can pull together business cases, develop propositions, write plans and lead people to get a job done. I am also good at making connections between people from different walks of life!

Hi Julia,

I'm interested in Saturday events at Brixton Village but can't often get away on Tuesdays to come to the meetings - would you be the right person to talk to? I want to do a one-off chocolate cake mountain (stall) for charity.

Thanks!
Charlie

Hi

Are you the person working on negotiating free leases from shops? Someone said about that at the Spacemakers NESTA meeting but I did not get to talk to them. I would love to talk to you if that is the case as http://www.MUSTart.org would like to put on activities for the general public in these locations:)

Hi Julia - Yes of course. My preference is to see if we can get this started in Sheffield and then see if there is a model that others can learn from and we can then share what we've learnt. Does that suit you? Helen
